Curse of the Wolf King is the first installment in a series full of fairy tale retellings. In this first part of the Entangled with Fae series, the retelling will be of the story of Beauty and the Beast.
Since the big scandal, Gemma Bellefleur wants nothing more than to stand on her own two feet, and against her father’s will, she goes looking for a job. When one day she gets a letter in response to her application, she can’t be happier. But once arrived at the address, she is attacked by a pack of wolves. However, there is a wolf named Elliot who appears to be protecting her. She soon finds out that these wolves are actually cursed fae. And with a little bit of time left on the clock, Gemma takes on the challenge of breaking the curse. But what will she have to do for this? Will Gemma be able to break the curse?
Although The curse of the Wolf King is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast, the wolves sometimes reminded me of Little Red Riding Hood. However, you can recognize the story of Beauty and the Beast very well in this book. By example, you have the rose and wolf fae as the beast appear in this book.
I think many readers can identify with Gemma because of her love for books. For example, while reading I came across the following quote that seemed very recognizable to me.
“As much as I love my book, I’ve already read it three times. I want something new. Need something new.”
Tessonja Odette has worked out the main characters very well, and you will encounter both their strengths and weaknesses. In addition, she introduces a number of secondary characters who will also make their entrance again in the following parts.
The book has an uplifting romance throughout the story. And while this didn’t come as a surprise, it was a very nice addition to the story. Tessonja Odette has a fine writing style, so I quickly flew through the story.
I am very curious what else this series will bring and I am looking forward to the next part in the series called Heart of the Raven Prince . This story will be a retelling of Cinderella and this part will focus on one of the secondary characters. Heart of the Raven Prince will be released on July 14th.
Curse of the Wolf King is het eerste deel in een serie vol met hervertellingen van sprookjes. In dit eerste deel van de Entangled with Fae serie word het verhaal van Belle en het beest herverteld.
Sinds het grote schandaal wil Gemma Bellefleur niets liever als op haar eigen benen staan, en tegen de wil van haar vader in gaat ze op zoek naar een baan. Als ze op een dag een brief krijgt in reactie op haar sollicitatie, kan ze haar geluk niet op. Maar eenmaal aangekomen bij het adres word ze aangevallen door een troep wolven. Echter is er een wolf, genaamd Elliot, die haar lijkt te beschermen. Al snel komt ze erachter dat deze wolven daadwerkelijk vervloekte fae zijn. En met nog een klein beetje tijd op de klok, gaat Gemma de uitdaging aan om de vloek te verbreken. Maar wat zal ze hiervoor moeten doen? Zal het Gemma lukken om de vloek te verbreken?
Hoewel The curse of the Wolf King een hervertelling van Belle en het beest is, deed het mij door de wolven soms ook denken aan Roodkapje. Echter kun je het verhaal van Belle en het beest erg goed herkennen in dit boek. Zo heb je de roos en wolf fae.
Ik denk dat menig lezer zich kan herkennen in Gemma door haar liefde voor boeken. Zo kwam ik tijdens het lezen de volgende quote tegen die voor mij erg herkenbaar overkwam.

Tessonja Odette heeft de belangrijkste personages erg goed uitgewerkt, en je komt zowel hun sterke als zwakke punten tegen. Daarnaast introduceert ze een aantal bijpersonages die in de volgende delen ook weer hun entree zullen maken.
Het boek kent een opbouwende romance gedurende het verhaal. En hoewel dit niet als een verassing kwam, was dit een erg leuke toevoeging aan het verhaal. Tessonja Odette kent een fijne schrijfstijl, waardoor ik al snel door het verhaal vloog.
Ik ben erg benieuwd wat deze serie nog meer gaat brengen en ik kijk dan ook uit naar het volgende deel in de serie genaamd Heart of the Raven Prince. Dit verhaal zal een hervertelling van Assepoester worden en in dit deel zal een van de bijpersonages centraal staan. Heart of the Raven Prince zal op 14 juli verschijnen.
