A Rivalry of Hearts is the first part in the Fae Flings and Corset Strings series by Tessonja Odette. This book will take place in the same world as The Fair Isle trilogy and the Entangled with Fae series. I was really excited for a new series by this author and couldn’t wait to dive in. Will this book meet my expectations?

Edwina is a human author but is now published in Faerwyvae. She is supposed to do a book tour, but has arrived a little bit to late. This fault has big results, she has to share her book tour with William Haywood and her contract balancing on a thin edge. After a drunk night she ends up in a spicy bet. Who will win the publishing contract?

Both Edwina en William have a good reason to win the contract. Their bet soon leads to some tense nights. However William didn’t make the bet to make fun, he wants something more. I really loved the two of them. They are real enemies to lovers, which is really awesome!

I did like the fact Gemma, from A Curse of the Wolf King, was featured in this story as well. It connects the stories even more to the Faerwyvae world. Tessonja Odette has a nice writing style which is easy to read. This book is one of her spiciest yet and I can’t wait to continue in this series. I really enjoyed reading A Rivalry of Hearts and give it a 4 star rating.

In totaal heb ik deze maand 11 boeken gelezen, welke bijna allemaal recensie-exemplaren zijn. Welke boeken heb ik in deze maand gelezen? Een overzicht hiervan inclusief recensies staat hieronder gegeven. Mocht je na het lezen van mijn korte beoordeling in het overzicht hieronder benieuwd zijn geraakt naar mijn volledige recensie van een boek, klik dan op de afbeelding.

Nu is het natuurlijk elke maand weer de vraag welk boek ik mijn favoriet van deze maand is. Deze maand was er voor mij een boek wat er echt bovenuit stak. Dan heb ik het over A Song of Sin and Salvation van L.H. Blake. Dit boek is zo goed geschreven dat het mij wist te raken en echt prachtig geschreven is. Ik zou dit boek dan ook iedereen aanraden!

Het eerste boek dat ik deze maand las is Stealing Infinity. Dit is het eerste deel in de Stolen Beauty serie van Alison Noel. Deze auteur heeft al enkele succesvolle boeken gepubliceerd. Dit boek heeft een prachtige omslag en de synopsis klinkt echt geweldig. Voor mij wordt dit het eerste boek dat ik van deze schrijfster lees, maar wat zal ik ervan vinden?

Waardering: 4.5 uit 5.

I’m a threat to time itself

Het tweede boek dat ik deze maand las is Ruling Destiny het tweede deel in de Stolen Beauty serie van Alison Noel. Ik vond het eerste deel genaamd Stealing Infinity erg leuk en kon niet wachten om verder te lezen. Ik had hoge verwachtingen, maar kan dit boek ze waarmaken?

Waardering: 4 uit 5.

Het derde boek dat ik deze maand las Het lied van de zee. Dit is het nieuwste boek door A.G. Slatter en tevens het begin van een serie. Deze fantasy is wederom in een prachtige limited edition jasje gestoken door boekerij, maar uiterlijk zegt natuurlijk niet alles. Wat zal A.G. Slatter in petto hebben voor haar lezers?

Waardering: 4 uit 5.

Het vierde boek dat ik deze maand las is Cruel Beauty. Dit boek lag al lange tijd op mijn plank en heb ik nu eindelijk eens opgepakt. Dit was ook zeker de moeite waard en ik heb genoten van het lezen.

Waardering: 4 uit 5.

Het vijfde boek dat ik deze maand las is A Song of Sin and Salvation, een stand-alone van L.H. Blake. Net als haar debuut, Where the lights lead, kent dit boek een opbouwende romantiek. Het verhaal zou gaan over vrijheid, keuzes en eerste liefde. Ik heb echt genoten van het debuut van deze auteur en heb ook hoge verwachtingen van deze stand-alone. Maar kan L.H. Blake haar goede reputatie hoog houden?

Waardering: 5 uit 5.

Het zesde boek dat ik deze maand las is Kinderen van de tijd van Adrian Tchaikovsky. Dit boek heeft al meerdere prijzen gewonnen, waardoor ik hoge verwachtingen had. Toen de uitgever mij vroeg of ik dit boek wou lezen, kreeg ik direct een trigger warning voor spinnen mee. Dit boek kent twee verhaallijnen. De laatste overlevende mensen die leven in een ruimteschip en de geëvolueerde spinnen die nog op een planeet leven. Er is slechts plek voor een soort op de nieuwe wereld, maar wie zullen de erfgenamen van deze nieuwe wereld zijn?

Waardering: 3 uit 5.

Het zevende boek dat ik deze maand las is Prophecy of Gods and Crows. Dit is het begin van een nieuwe serie van C.D. britt. Ik vond het leuk om haar vorige serie over godinnen te lezen, en was benieuwd wat deze zou brengen. Wat heeft ze voor haar lezers in petto?

Waardering: 3 uit 5.

Het achtste boek dat ik deze maand las is Goddess of Death. Dit is het tweede deel in de Supernatural Saviour serie van C.A. variaan. Dit wordt het eerste boek dat ik ooit van deze schrijfster zal lezen. Ik werd aangetrokken door dit boek vanwege de geweldige kaft. Maar wat zal ik denken van Goddess of Death?

Waardering: 4.5 uit 5.

Het negende boek dat ik deze maand las is Blurred lines. Dit is een spin-off in de Only Girl-trilogie van Marion de Ré. Ik heb echt genoten van deze trilogie over Jack en Louise. Deze spin-off gaat verder met het verhaal van Mel, de beste vriendin van Louise. Dit boek wordt een romantische komedie met friends with benefits. Ik ben heel benieuwd wat Mels verhaal gaat brengen. Zal ik er net zo van genieten als van het verhaal van Louise?

Waardering: 4 uit 5.

Het tiende boek dat ik deze maand las is A Dream So Wicked. Dit is het vijfde deel in een reeks sprookjesvertellingen. In dit vijfde deel van de Entangled with Fae serie wordt het verhaal van Doornroosje in een nieuw jasje gestoken. Ik heb elk boek in deze serie gelezen en vond ze allemaal geweldig. Wat zal ze in petto hebben voor dit boek?

Waardering: 3.5 uit 5.

Het elfde en laatste boek dat ik deze maand las is Someone New. Dit is het eerste deel in een nieuwe trilogie van Laura Kneidl. Ik heb erg genoten van haar vorige duologie en was erg benieuwd wat ze nog meer in petto zou hebben voor haar lezers. De achterflap is in ieder geval mysterieus wat direct mijn aandacht trok. Wat zal Laura Kneidl voor haar lezers in petto hebben?

A Dream So Wicked is the fifth part in a series of fairytale retellings. In this fourth installment of the Entangled with Fae series, the story of Sleeping Beauty is retold. I’ve read every single book in this series and loved every one of them. What will she have in store for this book?

Briony grew up in a convent, when suddenly on her last day there her parents have come to claim her. She is a lost fae princess and must marry a wealthy human to save her family. Even though she is attracted to the baker called Thorne who has come to collect her, she has to do this for her family. But when she turns out to be Thornes nemesis, she is in danger. He can control her with a single touch and uses this to make Briony trigger the sleeping curse on her family. They must make a bargain to save her family and marriage. He will help her with her marriage but may not control her again. But neither of them expected the forbidden desire burning between them. What will these rivals do? Will Briony be able to break the curse on her family?

A Dream So Wicked can be read as a standalone, but some charachters you might recognise if you’ve read the other books in this series. Briony was already introduced in A Taste of Poison, however Thorne was an unknown charachter for me. In this book you will both of them very well. However I must admit Briony and Thorne are my least favorite main characters by Tessonja Odette so far. I don’t know why, but I just like them less.

In A Dream So Wicked you will experience the personal growth of Briony but also the rival she can be. She and Thorne have to work togethere to wake their families, however all they want is to be free and happy. Therefore I think this book could have been so much better if it just focussed on their relationship, in stead of being a whole rescue mission. Tessonja Odette has a great writing style, however this book just couldn’t get me hooked.

Even though I am a big fan of Tessonja Odette, this book just was a little bit disappointing for me. Don’t get me wrong, I still really enjoyed the story however I think it could just have more of that magic spark all of her other books do have. Nevertheless I am still curious about what else there is to come, and look forward to reading her next books.
