Waardering: 3.5 uit 5.

Moonkissed is the english debut of Latoya Morris. She previously has written some dutch books like Nooitgedacht and Gebroken adem. Even though these dutch books both didn’t blow me away, I was drawn to Moonkissed. The cover is really appealing and I wanted to start reading right away. What will Latoya Morris have in store for her readers?

This book got my attention from the first page. Sadie is a really nice character even though I disliked her personality a bit. She wants quite a lot and if it doens’t go her way she seems irritated very easily. Therefore it is no surprise Sadie didn’t want to move to the rainforest at all. However once she arrived, it turned out to be a big house and she seems content.

During the story it soon becomes clear they are not the only residents and soon you meet the mysterious boy. He is full of knowledge and can be really persuading. I soon had a feeling he couldn’t be trusted even though Sadie seems to get along with him very well. For me the red line in the story was predictable, because there were lots of hints given as to how the story could possibly end.

Latoya Morris has a nice writing style. You can easily read this book in a small amount of time, since it is written very smoothly. I would recommend this book to readers who are looking for an exciting outside adventure with some good twists. In my opinion this book is a decent read and I had fun reading it. Therefore I give Moonkissed a 3,5 star rating.

About Moonkissed

A city girl in Canada’s rugged wild. A kiss under a mystic moon. An ancient power awakens.

Spoiled 17-year-old Sadie Quinn is not amused when she’s forced to leave Vancouver and her friends behind when her father Richard takes his family to Great Bear Rainforest for a shoot for a Canadian nature channel. The family will live in the rainforest for a year, where the Spirit Bear, a rare white bear, resides.

Although Sadie initially hates the isolation, she becomes fascinated by her father’s work and accepts her temporary fate, especially when their handsome guide Riverty provides much-needed distraction.

Animals and nature are struggling to survive. When Sadie meets a young man named Tarqeq, who claims to have been summoned by the Moon God to help protect the animals in the rainforest, her life changes. Tarqeq possesses the power of the moon and promptly passes his gift onto Sadie, allowing her to help him in turn. While Sadie learns to use her powers to create a unique bond with all life in the Great Bear Rainforest, people start dying, seemingly at the cause of a wild animal. Soon though, all evidence leads to one person.
