Twisted by Time is the first part in the Timecaster chronicles by R.L. Perez. I previously read her Nightcaster Chronicles and Bloodcaster Chronicles which I both really liked. But will I like this first part in this series just as much as I liked her other series?

What can go wrong with a spell to travel to Miami for spring break? Nothing it would seem for Desiree, but when she casts the spell she ends up in Cuba in the year 1898. With the Spanish-American war around her, and having no idea how to get back to her time, Desi is caught in a war of mortals and a war of mosters. When she meets Oliver, a American warlock soldier, she might be able to get the help she needs to go home. But soon it seems that this won’t be easy. Will Desi be able to go home? What dangers lurke in these wars?

In this book you will get to know Desi, a 17 year old witch who doesn’t seem to have lots of experience with magic. If you’ve read the Nightcaster Chronicles you might already know Desi a bit. In addition to getting to know Desi, you will also meet Oliver and many other characters.

Twisted by Time is well-written and knows some humor, tension and fantasy. The story has a slow built, and a bit of a slow pace which could have been better in my opinion. However the worldbuilding is really good, and the story knows a great end.

I enjoyed reading Twisted by Time, however this book is my least favorite by this author. In my opinion the story could have a better pace, and characters could have been worked out a bit further. Nevertheless I am really curious about what the next part, called Devoured by Darkness, will bring. Therefore I give this book a 3 star rating.
